The Population, Commerce and Industry Won't Come Up in "SimCity 4"

In "SimCity 4," you play the mayor of a town as you build and control your own city. If your city is no longer growing, it could be that your citizens disagree with what you are doing. Luckily, this problem can be resolved.

  1. Growing Population

    • If population growth is stalled, make sure that schools, hospitals and jobs are located near residential areas. Also make sure that garbage and pollution are reduced. Place parks and roads near residential areas to shorten the work commute and encourage residents to move to your city.

    Industrial and Commercial Growth

    • Build a landfill near businesses so that trash can be disposed of, to encourage industry growth. All businesses should have access to roads, airports and seaports nearby. It is also a good idea to build businesses near neighbor connections (other cities). Build commercial zones next to landmarks, and provide access to transportation in order for commercial zones to grow. These zones also require landfills and parks in order to reduce pollution.

    Demand Bar

    • In your tool bar, you may see a "Demand Bar," which displays green, blue and yellow bars. When the green bar is high, it indicates that people want to move to your city. When the blue and yellow bars are up, commercial and industrial zones are in demand. Click on each of the demand bars to get a detailed explanation of what your residents want out of the residential, commercial and industrial zones. Following the residents' demands can increase all of the bars.
