How Deep to Plant a Tree Lily Bulb thumbnail
There are many species and varieties of lilies.

Tree lily is a misnomer for an Orienpet hybrid lily that grows to about 4 feet in height, maybe taller. Large bulbs are planted 6 to 8 inches deep and 18 inches apart. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Description

    • Tree lilies have two-toned, blended colors. Cooler weather yields richer color while warmer climate will lighten the bloom colors. They tend to grow taller than other lilies and have thick stalks.

    Planting Bulbs

    • Excellent drainage is required for successful growth. Planting areas should be chosen carefully. Small bulbs need to be planted about 3 to 4 inches deep and 12 inches apart. Roots should face downward into the soil while placing 1 inch of soil on top of the bulb. Planting can occur in the fall or spring.

    Tips

    • Planting bulbs in garden areas that slope provides natural drainage. Staking and labeling each plant will protect them from trampling. Bulbs can also be planted in containers.
