System Idle Process Problems
The System Idle process in the Windows task manager often seems to hog a large percentage of the CPU's resources. While this seems to be a problem, it is actually a normal side effect of how the process operates.

System Idle
-
When a CPU is on and functioning, but not required for computation in a program, it is "idle." The System Idle process in the Task Manager appears when a significant portion of the CPU is idling.
Function
-
The System Idle process keeps track of the amount of CPU processing power still available for the user. A higher percentage in use by this process does not indicate a problem or a lack of available system resources.
-
Appearance
-
The System Idle Process will not always appear in the list of running processes, as it only activates when a significant amount of CPU cycles are idle. The System Idle process will never show a "low" amount of CPU in use, as it disappears when the idling percentage decreases.
