How to Compare TV Screens

There are several factors to consider when buying a TV.

It is finally time to get rid of that old, tiny television in your living room and replace it with something new, but how do you know what screen is the best?

  1. Price

    • The first thing you need to know when checking out TVs is how much you can spend. CRT televisions, also known as cathode-ray tube televisions, are the cheapest versions and the kind that have been around a long time. After that, LCD, Plasma, and DLP TVs are, typically, in that order, more expensive.

    Picture

    • CRT televisions actually rival newer television technology when it comes to picture quality, but for the most part, the newer technology is considered superior when it comes to the actual display. LCD TVs have a good reputation for easy viewing in a room with reflections, which is good for a room with a lot of natural light. Plasma TVs and DLP TVs have the best picture, overall.

    Viewing Angle

    • CRT and Plasma TVs can be viewed easily at an angle. LCD and DLP TVs can be difficult to watch, if you are not directly in front of them. Decide if the room you are in will have people watching at an angle to the TV before you make your purchase.

    Position

    • Think about how much room you have in your space. If you want to mount the TV on the wall, a CRT TV is probably not for you. CRT TVs are much larger and bulkier than any of the other screen types, which could be mounted on a wall.
