Looms for Beginners

Looms are available in many different shapes and styles, designed for very different projects. Beginners who want to weave yard, thread and other textiles should select a more basic loom at the beginning of their experience and work their way up to more intricate pieces of equipment.

  1. Children's Loom

    • The potholder loom is a good choice for children interested in weaving. This loom uses simple loops, basket weaved through one another to make a basic potholder. As weavers become more experienced they can use specialized weaving techniques and color design to create more intricate designs.

    Knitting Loom

    • Knitting looms use tools and techniques similar to those employed with the potholder loom, but are capable of producing more intricate designs. Yarn is used on the loom to weave any number of items, including clothing, decorative items and toys. Patterns are available to instruct beginners in technique and design.

    Rigid Heddle

    • Rigid heddle looms are versatile looms capable of creating cloth for sewing, small scarfs, table drapes, and other textiles. The loom is small and easy to assemble and use. It is ideal for beginners because the skills necessary to use the rigid heddle transfer to the use of larger table and floor looms.
