Effective coaching practices will make you a better coach.

Coaches can make a big difference in people's lives. Everyone has had her share of good and bad coaches. Effective coaches understand their role and how to best perform it.

  1. Technical Instruction

    • Coaches impart information. Technical instruction is a cornerstone of any coach's job. Good coaches help others succeed, whether they help someone improve as an athlete, close a deal in the conference room or find happiness with a partner.

    Dedication

    • Effective coaches instill a dedication to improvement, practice and training. If the task at hand were easy, no one would need a coach. Technical knowledge is necessary, but isn't always sufficient for success at a difficult task. The coach's role is to push others to practice until they accomplish the goal.

    Moral Guidance

    • Any competitive endeavor raises the risks of cheating. An effective coach steers her pledges away from immoral behavior. Particular instances of cheating may pay off, but an effective coach worries about more than just the game or competition. A good coach cares for his students' long-term development and prosperity.
