Computer Keyboard Errors

Common keyboard errors

Just as with any piece of computer hardware, keyboards wear out over time--which can cause errors. Another common cause of keyboard problems is accidental spills. While some keyboard errors are fixable, replacing a standard keyboard is usually inexpensive.

  1. Significance

    • As a keyboard ages, certain keys become damaged due to natural wear and tear. Sometimes worn out keys can even pop off the keyboard. This is common with the keys used most often, which include "S" and the vowels--"A, E, I, O and U."

    Drivers

    • Your keyboard's driver can also cause errors. If your driver becomes corrupted or needs to be updated, navigate to your keyboard manufacturer's website and download the latest version.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Your keyboard will last much longer--and you'll encounter fewer errors--if you use it gently. If the keys become sticky, try using a cotton swab and a can of compressed air to remove any grit, hair or dirt trapped underneath.
