Record selectors help the user navigate through data.

Microsoft Access is database software that you can use without knowledge of a programming language. Tables in Access hold the raw data, while you can use Access forms to enter data into the tables and select records. At the bottom of each form is a record selector option.

  1. Symbols

    • Record selectors have various symbols. When a record is saved and the user is on a current record, there will be a right-facing arrow. It also signifies that the current record is saved. Other symbols mean that the record is locked, a new record can be added or the current record is being updated.

    Location

    • The record selector can be found at the bottom of tables, queries and forms; it can also be hidden.

    Navigation

    • Use the record selector to navigate through the information in the database. The user can go to the first or last record in the database. He can also go directly to a record by entering the record number in the record selector field.
