Software for the Garmin Etrex Legend

The eTrex Legend is a handheld GPS receiver that comes preloaded with a basemap of the Americas plus 8MB of space for additional maps. Software for the Legend can be downloaded directly from the Garmin website (see Resource section).

Features

The eTrex Legend's software program is able to combine standard satellite positioning with WAAS position corrections to pinpoint your location to within three meters. In addition to the standard basemap, the software can read any maps from Garmin MapSource if you upload them to your device. The eTrex Legend can interface with your PC to upload and download waypoints and to load additional maps onto the device.

Considerations

The Legend software does not feature turn-by-turn navigation, something to consider if you're planning to use the unit as a navigator. Legend software does include a hunt/fish calendar and sun and moon information. The device is not compatible with custom maps or points of interest.

Limitations

The Legend does not accept data cards, which means you are limited to 8MB for extra maps. Legend software can store up to 1,000 waypoints and 20 routes. The track log can retain up to 10,000 points within 10 tracks.
