Can I Do a Webinar With Moodle?
Moodle is an open source Course Management System (CMS) designed to help educators utilize the Internet as a teaching aide. It gives educators many options for using the Internet during instruction including the ability to create webinars.

A plugin provided by Sclipo, another Internet company, allows educators to make webinars with Moodle using version 1.9 or later (of the Moodle software). The service is completely free and fully browser based.

The Moodle webinar service allows educators to give instruction to up to 100 students in a session. Multiple documents can be shown by multiple participants simultaneously using the integrated whiteboard feature. Also, Moodle allows participants to view each others' desktops.

Procedure

To set up a webinar, download the latest version of the Moodle service, then download the Sclipo plug-in and copy it into the Moodle "mod" directory - moodle/mod/. Log in as "Administrator" and go to "Notifications." Then, on the Moodle program go to "Course", then "Sclipo Live Web Class." Describe and schedule the class and upload your teaching materials.

In order to use the service, the user must have one of the following web browsers (as of 2010): Firefox 3 or later, Safari 4 or later, Chrome, Internet Explorer 7 or later. Also, Flash version 10 or later, broadband Internet, one MB or more of download/upload speed and one GB of RAM or more. Lastly, teachers must have a webcam.
