Standard Toilet Repair
Gravity toilets, the most popular type of toilet, share common inner components regardless of the differences in their outer designs. They also share common problems. Does this Spark an idea?

Common Tank Problems
-
The tank contains the main components of the toilet's flushing system: the fill valve and the flush valve. Standard issues involve the fill valve refilling the tank slowly or not shutting off. It is common for the flapper, part of the flush valve, to not seat properly in the hole that allows water to drain into the bowl. The chain that connects the flapper to the handle's trip lever often needs adjusting to make certain it is not too tight or too long.
Bowl Problems
-
The rim holes underneath the lip of the bowl can become clogged with mineral deposits. But perhaps the most common problems occurring with the bowl are clogs within the drain or trapway. Underneath the bowl is the seal between the toilet and the drain pipe, which can be a source of leaks and smelly sewer gases if it is faulty.

Repair Considerations
-
When you notice a toilet flushing differently and especially when you notice it leaking, repair it quickly. Protect against unnecessary clogs caused by foreign objects falling into the bowl or being tossed in by small children by keeping the toilet seat and lid closed when not in use.
