Rose Tarantula Care

The rose tarantula, also known as the Chilean rose tarantula, is a common tarantula in the pet trade. It is hardy and docile, and caring for it appropriately can keep the tarantula healthy throughout its life. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Temperature

    • Rose tarantulas do well at temperatures that are comfortable to humans, as they prefer a range between 74 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. University of Calgary recommends against using artificial heat sources, as they can dry out the rose tarantula.

    Feeding

    • The rose tarantula does well on a diet of crickets, with a schedule of two or three crickets every other week, for a total of around six crickets a month. Tarantulas are opportunistic feeders, so they will overeat if they are allowed to do so.

    Housing

    • House a rose tarantula in a 5- or 10-gallon tank, choosing a tank that is long rather than tall. Line the bottom with aquarium gravel, shredded coconut husk or horticultural peat. Avoid potting soils, as they may have chemicals that are harmful to your tarantula.

    Hiding Place

    • Give the rose tarantula a plastic aquarium plant or half a coconut husk to hide under. In the wild, rose tarantulas dig burrows and prefer to have a place that is somewhat private to hide.
