Are Light Bulbs Recyclable? thumbnail
Only certain types of light bulbs are recyclable.

Whether a light bulb is recyclable depends on a number of factors. Metal parts, type of glass and mercury content are all significant things to consider before recycling a light bulb. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Age of Light Bulb

    • The older, traditional incandescent bulbs are not recyclable. It is recommended to throw incandescent bulbs away with your regular trash.

    Type of Light Bulb

    • The compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) that manufacturers offer are better for a number of reasons, most importantly, the fact that they last longer, thus creating less waste.

    Recycling CFLs

    • The CFLs are recyclable only if taken to the proper recycling center. They cannot be recycled with other glass products because they contain metal.
