Minneapolis/St. Paul Scooter & Motorcycle Training
The Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Center recommends all scooter and motorcycle riders take a rider safety and training course to reduce the rate of accidents. The MMSC was formed after an increase in motorcycle fatalities and conducts training at the 29 state-run colleges and universities.

Types of Training

The MMSC offers separate courses for motorcycle, moped and scooter riders. Courses range from basic rider instruction to advanced rider training and even tricycle rider instruction.
Course Locations

Saint Paul and Minneapolis training course locations include, Saint Paul College, Hennepin Technical College and Century College. Only St. Paul College offers scooter-training courses.

Course Details

In 2010, courses cost $20 to $160. The Basic Rider Course takes 14.5 hours over several days and includes both classroom instruction and on-cycle practice.
Prerequisites

You must be 18 years old and have a valid Minnesota Driver's License and motorcycle permit. If you are under age 18 and have a driver's license, you must complete the MMSC Basic Rider Course before you can receive a permit.
Equipment

Participants in the St. Paul College motorcycle and scooter-training courses must supply a vehicle and wear protective clothing, including a helmet. Motorcycles are provided in training courses held at Hennepin Technical College -- riders must supply their own gear.
