Types
-
Lofts Vancouver describes three types of lofts. The "hard" loft is the classic loft that is industrial space converted into residential living space. The "soft" loft has some of the features of the hard loft like an open floor plan but has more in common with a condominium. It does not have to be in an industrial space.
Features
-
Hard lofts, according to Lofts Vancouver, are classic lofts featuring exposed beams, brick, ductwork, and sometimes constructed of concrete. There are high ceilings, large windows, and an open floorplan where the tenant can define the different living spaces. Soft lofts feature the high ceilings, large windows, and open floorplans but have a more upscale look and feel to them.

Considerations
-
Most lofts are located in the downtown area of large cities although soft lofts may be found in more suburban areas. People that choose downtown lofts should consider noise, lack of parking, and smaller living spaces when choosing loft living. Downtown lofts and city living in general can be expensive.
