How Far Apart to Plant Asiatic Jasmine

Because it is drought, cold and shade tolerant, Asiatic jasmine is a frequently used ground cover. A low-maintenance plant, Asiatic jasmine can easily replace your lawn and, the best part is, you only have to mow it once a year.

Uses

Asiatic jasmine is versatile. Although it is a "true" groundcover, according to master gardeners with the University of Florida, it will also climb, if trained, so can be used as a vine to cover trellises and arbors. Plant it in a pot and allow it to cascade over the sides.

Considerations

If you are using Asiatic jasmine as a groundcover, keep in mind that it spreads slowly. Planting the plants closer together will get the space covered quicker.

Spacing

Researchers at the University of Florida Jasmine Project determined that, when planted 12 inches apart, Asiatic jasmine takes six months to grow together. They recommend planting the jasmine 6 inches apart.
