Fencing to Protect Dogs From Mountain Lions
Mountain lions are found throughout the western half of the United States as well as far south in areas such as Florida, Louisiana and Texas. They can live in forests, open grasslands, swamps or desert areas, making them a threat to homes with canine companions. Does this Spark an idea?

Fully Fenced-in Enclosures
-
Covered pens are the best way to protect pets from a mountain lion attack. These are especially good at night, when the dog cannot be monitored.
Tall Fences
-
For mountain lions, a taller fence can help deter attacks. Tall fence is especially ideal for smaller yards but may not work well for dog owners who have many acres of property. However, some mountain lions may be capable of clearing a 10-foot fence, according to the Mountain Lion Foundation.

Electric Fencing
-
Electric fences that are extremely tall can also be beneficial in discouraging mountain lions from attacking canine companions.
Alternative Options
-
When combined with fencing, certain alarms can be extremely beneficial in deterring mountain lions. Motion detectors that set off sprinklers or set off loud alarms can scare off a mountain lion that is about to attack.
