A Diet Plan for Clear Skin

Certain foods have a positive impact on the skin. People who experience blemishes, breakouts and other pesky skin conditions should consider altering their diets to incorporate healthier foods that are rich in essential nutrients.

  1. Vitamin A

    • Foods high in Vitamin A help keep skin clear by replenishing the skin's texture and eliminating dead skin cells that cause topical blotches. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health, mangos, apricots, spinach, sweet potatoes and raw carrots are excellent sources of Vitamin A.

    Selenium

    • According to Alive, selenium is a natural antioxidant that helps maintain the skin's elasticity so the skin is preserved and aging is offset. Incorporate foods that are rich in selenium, including corn, wheat, rice, nuts and legumes. Animal products, such as beef, chicken and tuna, also contain high levels of selenium.

    Berries

    • Berries are rich in antioxidants, and according to Lawrence E. Gibson, M.D., a MayoClinic dermatologist, antioxidant-rich foods are "skin-friendly." Substitute a handful of blueberries or raspberries for a bowl of ice cream to improve the skin.

    Water

    • Water repairs and naturally moisturizes the skin. Drink plenty of water so that toxins are flushed out of the system and skin can radiate with a healthy shine.
