Bricklayer Certification

Bricklayer certification programs include on-the-job training.

Bricklayers are skilled construction laborers that use concrete and mortar to build structures, foundations and walls in buildings. To be fully qualified, bricklayers must complete a certification program that includes on-the-job training as an apprentice in conjunction with classroom instruction.

Eligibility

A high-school diploma or equivalent is required to qualify for the certification program. Applicants must also have an employer who is willing to adhere to the apprenticeship and certification-program guidelines.

Site Training

Apprentices learn how to lay tiles, bricks and concrete blocks and are taught repair techniques for walls, fireplaces, floors and partitions. They learn how to build various designs and shapes that strengthen structures and make them aesthetically appealing. Applying structural veneers is part of the training.

Classroom Instruction

Bricklayer certification instructors teach students how to accurately measure and mark reference points to guide the bricklaying procedure. Education in the use of plumb lines and levels is provided. Basic math and geometry courses help bricklayers correctly calculate material requirements.
