Flower arrangements have both complementary and contrasting colors.

Flower arrangements are a lovely decoration throughout your home. Place them in the foyer, on the dining room table, on nightstands, and in the living room decorating the coffee table. Traditional flower arranging is easy to learn. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Types

    • You can make flower arrangements from three types of flowers: fresh, dried or silk. Fresh flowers are short-lived but can be wonderfully fragrant. Dried flowers need gentle care and may not be the best choice with active children. Silk flowers are easy care and a good choice for those with asthma.

    Considerations

    • Choose your main color and then the complementary and contrasting supporting colors. A color wheel may be helpful. Choose a vase or other floral container in a size relative to its intended location.

    Foundation

    • Cut floral foam to fit snugly inside the container. Glue and set aside until dry. Then soak the foam if you will be arranging freshly cut flowers.

    Arranging

    • Arrange shorter flowers in the front and taller flowers in the back. Blend the colors to complement or contrast throughout the arrangement. Insert tall greenery behind the taller flowers and short greenery interspersed among the shorter flowers. Finish with sprigs of Baby's Breath.
