Miata Engine Specifications

The Mazda Miata, internally referred to as the MX-5 Miata, debuted during the 1990 model year. This affordable roadster began its third generation of production during the 2006 model year.

  1. Engine Design

    • The NC-bodied third-generation Mazda Miata is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine. This naturally aspirated engine is a 16-valve DOHC design with a 3.44-inch bore, 3.27-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10.8 to 1.

    Engine Output

    • This engine produces 158 hp at 6,700 rpm and 140 ft.-lb. of torque at 5,000 rpm when mated to an automatic transmission, while this engine generates 167 hp at 7,000 rpm and 140 ft.-lb. of torque at 5,000 rpm when outfitted with a manual gearbox.

    Fuel Economy

    • The Miata's combination of 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine and six-speed automatic gearbox yields 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The five-speed manual model is rated at 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, while the six-speed manual model achieves the same fuel economy numbers as the automatic model.
