Mini pocket rockets may not be driven on Texas roads.

Mini pocket rockets, or mini motorcycles or pocket bikes, are not eligible to be driven on public roadways in Texas. In addition, they may not be registered in the state.

  1. Requirements

    • Texas requires that all motor vehicles must have a title certificate and be registered with the state Department of Transportation before they may be driven on state roads. Mini pocket rockets are not eligible for registration, as they do not meet documentation and equipment standards set by the state. While the state allows approved mopeds to be registered, as of November 2010, no type of mini pocket rocket is listed as an approved moped.

    Significance

    • Mini pocket rockets may not be driven on any road, including roads with low speed limits, as they do not qualify as motor assisted scooters, which may be driven on low-speed roads. In addition, the Department of Public Safety notes that mini pocket rockets are not eligible to be driven on sidewalks as they are considered motor vehicles.

    Considerations

    • Mini pocket rockets may be used on private property within Texas, where they do not have to meet the state's title and registration requirements before use.
