Many students receiving SSI will be eligible for FSEOG.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, or FSEOG, is a type of grant funded by the United States government for students seeking a college degree. Participating schools award the grant to students who display the highest financial need.

  1. Eligibility

    • The grant is available for undergraduates enrolled either part-time or full-time. You need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, to be considered for the FSEOG.

    Amount

    • Each year the federal government allocates a certain amount for each school. The school then determines criteria and award amounts. Federal guidelines mandate that grants range from $100 to $4000.

    Supplemental Security Income

    • Because the FSEOG constitutes grant-aid that you do not have to repay--similar to the Pell Grant--you can obtain it without any change or loss of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) eligibility as long as you use it for educational expenses.
