Missionary work isn't always volunteer work. There are job and career options as a missionary that will produce an income. How much a missionary makes depends on different aspects of the job.

Average Salary

The average salary of a missionary, according to Simply Hired, is $35,000 as of November, 2010. Salary List's research of eight missionary locations showed an average salary of $26,624 and a range from $20,051to $32,614. Aspects that influence income are funds granted from the church, location, experience and included benefits.

Fundraising

You can use fundraisers to cut costs of missions and to save income. Many nonprofit missionaries create fundraisers to meet expenses. If you are making an income as a missionary, a fundraiser would help you reach goals on a mission trip. This also allows you to save income for any area you would want to use it in.

Support Income

Missionaries can make additional income while on their missions. You can sell crafts or work in a local shop for a part-time job.
