Difference Between a Deck & a Porch
While the words "deck" and "porch" are often used interchangeably, they are actually two different structures that have their own purposes and design features. Does this Spark an idea?

Deck

According to an article on the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) website written by Nick Gromicko and Rob London, a deck is a wooden floor raised from the ground and attached to the back of the house. A deck can be covered or uncovered, but must be contained by a railing for safety. Decks are used for outdoor gatherings and parties.
Porch

In the same article, Gromicko and London describe a porch as structure located at the front of the house that is used as a covered entrance before the entryway. Unlike decks, a porch is usually integrated into the overall design of the house, and is not an attached structure that has little to do with the architectural elements of the home.

Decks are sometimes confused with patios as well. According to Gromicko and London, the main difference between patios and decks is that a patio is made from cement or stone, while a deck is constructed from wood. They both are used for outdoor dining and entertaining.
