What Happens to Dream Homes After They Are Won?
Every year since 1997, the network HGTV (Home and Garden Television) has dazzled viewers by giving away a custom-built, fully furnished home in the Dream Home Sweepstakes. It's natural to wonder what happened to the dream homes over the years, after the television cameras were turned off. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Origins
-
The idea to give away a fully furnished dream home came from network founder Ken Lowe in 1996. The following year, the HGTV dream home sweepstakes was born. Located in Jackson Hole Wyoming, the first dream home was won by Michelle Rambo of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Where Are They Now?
-
Most of the winners of the dream home have chosen to sell their prize soon after winning it. The reasons were usually because of the high cost of maintenance for the dream homes, or because the winners choose to remain in their home states instead of moving.
