What Is the Jewish Family Tree?
JewishGen, an affiliate of the Museum of Jewish Heritage, created the Family Tree of the Jewish People (FTJP). In addition to providing help with genealogy, the Jewish Family Tree online resource includes a database of more than 14 million Jewish records.

History
-
The Jewish Family Tree started out as a bulletin board project. The Jewish Family Tree started in 1987 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. A paper bulletin board at the museum held the family trees of Jewish families interested in learning about their heritage. As the project expanded, the FTJP database and JewishGen website came into fruition.
Purpose
-
In addition to the Jewish Family Tree, JewishGen offers other Jewish information. The Jewish Family Tree encompasses everything about Jewish genealogy and heritage while connecting Jewish families worldwide. Jewish calendars, special interest groups (SIGs) based on location, remembrance books called "yizkor" and online courses specific to genealogy all contribute to the overall purpose of the FTJP.

Features
-
The Jewish Family Tree website also features a burial database. Visitors to the FTJP site have access to a variety of databases, which are both searchable and uploadable. In addition to the FTJP, JewishGen provides a Holocaust Database and the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR). JewishGen also provides a FAQs guide for newcomers to the Jewish Family Tree.
