One of the most important credentials for a project manager is the PMP. Having the PMP certification allows your industry to know you have experience and competency as a project manager. According to the Project Management Institute, project mangers with PMP certification are paid up to 10 percent more than non-certified project managers.
Requirements

If you have a four-year degree, you must have three years of experience working as a project manager. Within those three years, you must have led 4,500 hours of projects and completed 35 hours of project manager training. If you have a high school diploma, you must have five years of experience with 7,500 hours of project management and 35 hours of project management training.

Examination

To get your PMP certification, you must pass a 175-question multiple-choice test. The test is broken into six categories--initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing and professional and social responsibility. You will have four hours to complete the test.
