Walkways & Patios
Walkways and patios in the home landscape serve two different functions. Walkways provide a footpath from area to area in the yard. Patios are paved outdoor spaces, usually adjoined to the rear of the house. However patios of any size can be located throughout the yard. Does this Spark an idea?

Design
-
Walkways and patios as part of a planned landscape are designed to draw people through the landscape and into garden destinations. Walkways can be straight and narrow or wide and winding. Patios are both large and small and can be circular, square, rectangular or irregularly shaped.
Function
-
Patios are intended either for groups of people to get together or as secluded spots where you can unwind alone after a long day. Many people create outdoor living areas with comfortable furniture and complete kitchens.

Materials
-
Pavers, flagstone, brick and poured concrete are some of the material choices for patios and walkways. They are available in a variety of styles, colors and textures designed to complement the natural beauty of a garden and coordinate with the exterior of a home. Tumbled pavers provide a natural, aged look and are available in shades of grays, tans, reds and greens. Concrete can also be tinted and stamped with a textured surface to mimic bricks, pavers, tiles and stone.
