When to Cut New Sod for the First Time?
New sod must be watered and mowed for the entire growing season so it stays healthy and continues to grow. As the sod grows, the grass blades will become long, but you must allow the grass blades to grow before mowing. Does this Spark an idea?

Growing Sod
-
Sod is planted on topsoil that is free of debris, rocks and weeds. As the sod grows, the roots grow down into the topsoil, which attaches the new sod to the ground. The grass blades will grow 4 inches or more before the sod is mowed.
Watering Sod
-
Sod must be watered regularly to keep the sod moist and promote root growth. As the grass grows, the roots grow deeper into the ground below. The longer the grass blades are, the deeper the roots are underground, which is needed before the first mowing.

Mowing Sod
-
After two to three weeks of proper watering and a grass blade height of 4 to 6 inches, the sod is ready to be mowed. Only remove 1/3 inch from off the top of the sod. Never remove inches from the new sod or it can die back. To obtain a grass blade of 2 inches, mow the sod every three days and only remove 1/3 inch each time until the blades are 2 inches long.
