Home improvements to make your home more energy efficient can help you save money on your energy bills. In Illinois, low income residents may be eligible to receive help from the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP), in order to pay for such upgrades.

  1. Program Overview

    • The goal of the Illinois Home Improvement Energy Assistance Program is to, "...help low income residents save fuel and money, while improving the comfort of their homes," according to the government-run website Benefits.gov.

    Available Benefits

    • Eligible home improvement benefits available under IHWAP include window and door weatherization, air sealing, wall and attic insulation and electric base-load reduction, as well as furnace repair and replacement.

    Eligibility Guidelines

    • In order to be eligible for this program, your household income must be within 200 percent of the established federal poverty level. Application determinations are made through your local Community Action Agency.
