Origin
-
Prepainted wallpaper is not a new fad. According to "History Magazine," the Chinese began producing painted wallpaper in the early 1600s with birds, landscapes and plants on rice paper.
Identification
-
Wallpaper designs created with paint continue to be produced to this day because of their inimitable patterns and detailed variations. The finished product closely resembles that of print manufactured wallpaper, distributed in a roll or in cut shapes. Prepainted wallpaper is not to be confused with paintable wallpaper, which is purchased plain and painted once on the wall.

Benefits
-
Rather than using the overdone prints of the past, designers are opting for prepainted varieties with new artistic designs and patterns. Certain designers offer designs created according to the customer's specifications, starting from a plain paper base and building on that blank canvas with paint until the desired look is attained.
