Dynamic mirror is a function found in Solidworks, a CAD program. When you use the dynamic mirror function, the program mimics what you are drawing by replicating it along side your original sketch.

  1. Getting Dynamic Mirror as an Option

    • Dynamic mirror does not appear on your sketch toolbar or S menu, in order to select it as an option do the following: Use the "S" key, right click on the menu and select "Customize." Use the "Commands" tab, then click "Sketch," and drag it to the sketch menu.

    Using Dynamic Mirror

    • In order to use dynamic mirror you will need a center line. An existing edge or a sketch both work for this purpose. Highlight your center line and click the dynamic mirror button. This will enable you to use dynamic mirror. You can draw on both sides of the center line but doing so creates overlap.

    Uses for Dynamic Mirror

    • Dynamic mirror is used to make symmetrical sketches, it makes this task quite easy as the artist only needs to draw one half of the drawing.
