The Performance of a 6.4L Powerstroke

Powerstroke is a line of diesel engines used in Ford trucks and originally built by Navistar, the company once known as International Harvester. A 6.4-liter turbo diesel V-8 engine was built by Navistar for Ford, offering good performance in Ford Super Duty trucks.

  1. Performance

    • Introduced in 2008 and used through 2010, the 6.4-liter Powerstroke diesel was available in Ford F-350 Super Duty trucks. Paired with a six-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission, this engine was found in two- and four-wheel-drive trucks. The diesel is rated at 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

    Specifications

    • Depending on the truck's gross vehicle weight, the Super Duty outfitted with a 6.4-liter Powerstroke diesel has a payload range of 2,410 to 2,830 pounds. Maximum towing capacity is 12,500 pounds with conventional towing or 15,200 pounds with fifth-wheel towing.

    Navistar

    • In 2009, Ford and Navistar settled a dispute, effectively ending their supply agreement at the end of that year. Production of the 6.4-liter diesel was discontinued by Navistar, with Ford replacing that engine with a new-for-2011, 6.7-liter turbo diesel. The Power Stroke name is still in use.
