Spas and salons provide customers with cosmetic services intended to help boost their overall -- or their overall feeling about -- their appearance. Some people may be confused about the standard gratuity to give the person (or people) involved in their beauty treatment.

Standard etiquette for gratuity is the same after a beauty treatment as it is after a meal at a restaurant. A tip of 15 to 20 percent of the total prior to tax displays satisfaction with the service provided.

When receiving lengthy treatments such as a full-body wax or if someone went particularly out of her way, a tip larger than 20 percent shows appreciation.

Waxing is done by an esthetician. Estheticians may spend extra time with first-time customers, large areas of hair removal or specific requests.
