In order for the unemployment check to be direct deposited, the owner of the account must authorize this. Furthermore, each state provides a form to complete at the time of the request. The form specifically asks the unemployment benefits recipient to certify that they are authorizing the direct deposit. It is illegal to certify that one is the authorized user of the account if they are not.
