King Zephyr saxophones are a specific type and model of horn which were introduced to the market in the 1930s. King brand horns include the Zephyr model of saxophone.

  1. King History

    • Henderson White founded the H. N. White Company in 1893, which began producing a number of different horns. They were known as King horns. In 1916, the company began producing saxophones. Previous to this the company didn't make saxophones but instead imported other saxophone brands.

    Voll-True II

    • In 1932, the H. N. White Company began producing the Voll-True II saxophone model. These came in both tenor and alto. The company released a baritone model in 1933.

    Name Change

    • By 1935, the company changed the name from the Voll-True II to the Zephyr, the name it is known by today. Throughout the years, the company has made many changes from the original Voll-True II, including releasing a Zephyr Special, which was produced in 1939. The Zephyr Special later became the base design for other King saxophones.
