Effective Company Meetings
When executives get together for meetings they expect to get things done or decided. If business meetings are unproductive, executives deem them a waste of valuable time. To be effective, a meeting's objective must be met.
-
Agenda
-
Provide meeting participants with an agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Agendas keep meetings organized and on track so that time is used wisely and the potential to stray off-topic is minimized.
Objectives
-
Clearly identify the meeting's objectives. It is best to do so ahead of time to allow participants to come prepared. When participants are prepared the meeting runs smoothly, and people can make well-informed decisions.
-
Etiquette
-
Establish the etiquette expected during the meeting. When meetings are disrupted by people speaking out of turn or by ringing cell phones, the meeting takes up more time and loses its effectiveness. Begin the meeting by asking everyone to silence their phones and remind them of proper meeting etiquette.
Minutes
-
Take minutes or notes of the meeting. Minutes help business people remember what was discussed and decided, and they are particularly effective for reminding participants about follow-up activities assigned to them.
