Why Don't I Get Pictures and Such With Internet Explorer 8

Viewing pictures and other media is useful when using the Internet. Not being able to view them on Internet Explorer 8 can be frustrating, but there are many ways that the problem can be fixed.

  1. Broken Links

    • Sometimes pictures and videos will not appear in your browser if the link has been broken. Usually, the picture will be marked on the page by an outlined box with a red "X" in it. Right click on the "X" and choose "Show Picture" to attempt to reload it. If this doesn't work, try to view other media on different web pages to ensure that it isn't your computer with the problem.

    Too Many Temporary Internet Files

    • As you browse the Internet, your browser stores files and information from websites that you have visited. These are called temporary Internet files. If your browser has a lot of stored information, it may affect the ability to view pictures. Erase the temporary Internet files by choosing "Tools" and "Internet Options." Select the "Delete" button under the Browsing History section. Check the box for Temporary Internet Files and select "Delete."

    Multimedia Is Turned Off

    • There are advanced settings in Internet Explorer 8 that can turn on and off multimedia viewing, including pictures and videos within a web page. Select "Tools" and "Internet Options." Choose the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to the Multimedia section and ensure that the "Show Pictures" box has a check mark in it. Click "OK" to exit.
