A customs form is required when shipping packages interanationally.

To properly ship a package internationally via first class mail a proper customs form must be completed. The form must be completely filled out by the sender and properly affixed to the outside of the package.

  1. Form

    • A PS 2976 customs form from the U.S. Postal Service is the standard declaration needed for shipping a first class package internationally. This form can be picked up at any U.S. Post Office location, ordered online or can be completed online and printed out.

    Requirements

    • There is specific information required when filling out a customs form to ship a package. There are two parts of the form, a customs declaration and a sender's declaration. Information required for the customs declaration include what the items is (gift, commercial sample, document, other), weight, quantity, description and value. The sender's declaration requires the addresses of the sender and recipient.

    Exceptions

    • A customs form is not required for an item being mailed internationally that weighs less than 16 ounces. A form is also not required when the international mail weighs more than 16 ounces and is sent from a known mailer, such as an international business.
