Where Can I Find Cedar Lining for a Trunk?

Cedar wood is often used in places because it has a strong scent that repels insects. The red-colored wood appears in clothes closets, cigar humidors and as a lining in storage trunks.

Cedar Wood

  • Cedar wood is a lumber product that is derived from several coniferous trees. The most common sources are the Atlantic white cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides), the western red cedar (Thuja plicata) and the eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana). However, when using cedar for aromatic purposes, the wood of the eastern red cedar is much preferred.

Replacing the wood

  • Over time, the cedar wood may lose its scent and need to be replaced. If you are replacing the wood lining in a trunk, you do not want to use wood from other old trunks or pieces of furniture. Chances are these items will exhibit the same problem as that of your original piece of furniture.

  • The solution is to buy fresh cedar wood from a local source. To line your trunk, you can purchase cedar boards that are cut and milled for installation in walk-in closets. These boards come in 1/4-inch-thick boards that can easily be glued into place. They usually contain tongue and groove edges, which ensures a tight fit that contains the cedar aroma.
