Your Honda Accord's dip stick will look almost identical to the one pictured here.

It is recommended that you regularly check your Honda Accord's oil level. The oil dip stick tells you whether your car is low on oil or not.

  1. Locating the Oil Dip Stick

    • Make sure that your Accord has been turned off for at least 15 minutes to let the oil settle. Open the hood to your Accord's engine compartment. Look to the side of the engine behind the top pulley of the drivebelt. A circular orange handle will be sticking up. This is the oil dip stick handle.

    Reading the Dip Stick

    • Pull out the dip stick and clean it off with a paper towel or a rag. Put the dip stick back into its metal tube to collect settled oil, then take it out again. At the end of the dip stick are two small holes that indicate minimum or maximum levels. If the dip stick shows oil near or below the bottom hole, your Accord is low on oil.

    Oil Specifications

    • Add to or replace your Accord's oil with SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 engine oil. If you are unsure which type is already in the oil pan and engine, have a complete oil change and note the type used.
