Australian Paramedic Training
If you are interested in becoming a paramedic in Australia, you must be aware of various requirements that are standard for paramedic training. Once you have completed training, you can work to help injured and sick people every day as a paramedic.
-
Diploma
-
Some paramedics choose to obtain their diploma of health sciences degree and work in the transportation and professional emergency health care field in lieu of taking a professional development program. Though this is enough to make you eligible to work as a basic paramedic, it will not qualify you for more advanced degrees of paramedical work.
Advanced Training
-
If you are interested in becoming a specialized paramedic, it's necessary to obtain additional certifications as well as complete annual professional development programs. Examples of specialized courses include intensive care paramedic, flight paramedic and intensive care flight paramedic.

University Courses
-
In Australia, over a dozen colleges and universities offer classes to complete your paramedic training. Some of the courses are offered at the undergraduate level, while others are geared for postgraduate studies; some schools offer a blend of paramedic training with other degrees as well.
Driving and Criminal History
-
Because you will be expected to operate an ambulance, you will need to have a clean driving record, as well as a "C" Class driver's license in your driving district. In addition, you must pass certain police clearances in order to qualify for this position and be a permanent Australian resident.
