How Does Someone Volunteer in a Korean Orphanage?
Many people want to volunteer at orphanages, but are confused as to where to start. Korean orphanages in particular, can be daunting if someone does not already speak the language. However, for people already living and working in Korea, volunteering at an orphanage is a simple, straightforward process.

Housing
-
Websites which connecti English-speakers to orphanages all around Korea make it clear that Korean orphanages do not possess the facilities to house volunteers. However, if a foreigner is already living and working in Korea (as an English teacher, for example), they are more than welcome to come and volunteer for the day.
Visits
-
Select the orphanage closest to your place of residence and make contact with the staff there. Be sure that either you, or the person making the contact are able to speak Korean fluently enough to make the proper arrangements. It is important to arrange a visit before arriving so the orphanage knows what to expect when you arrive.
-
Frequency
-
Visit the orphanage as consistently as possible. It is best to go once a week or once a month at least. Play with the children, teach them English or just hang out with them. Volunteering at an orphanage is one of the most satisfying hobbies one can participate in, often yielding friendships that last a long time.
