Gun owners in Tennessee must go through training courses in order to legally carry handguns. These courses are given all over the state. There are several in Nashville which gun owners can complete in order to be certified.

Gun City USA buys and sells guns, has a range and is registered with the state as a handgun concealed-carry training school. The Gun City USA teachers address handgun safety, proper handgun operation and personal protection over four hours of class time. There are also four hours of range exercises to make sure that students understand what was taught. As of October 2010, the course costs $150 plus tax; this does not include the cost to get the permit.

The Range conducts a variety of gun classes, including handgun carrying permit training. They emphasize basic knowledge and skills for handgun use as well as self defense rights education in a 10-12 hour class. The Range provides text materials and a certificate of completion. The course costs $100.

Fifteen minutes outside of Nashville is Gootlettsville Gun Shop. Their website boasts that they have been teaching handgun permit classes longer than any other school in Tennessee and had a hand in actually crafting the legislation which created the safety requirements.
