Identification Cards Required to Leave the State

If you are planning to leave your state, remember to bring the appropriate identifcation.

Packing for travel can be challenging. There can be a lingering feeling that you've forgotten something. When planning for any kind of trip where you are leaving the state, you want to always remember to have proper identification.

Driving from State to State

Proper identification for a road trip includes that all licensed drivers on the trip that will be operating the vehicle have their drivers license on their person. It is also a good idea to check the trip vehicle for the current registration and insurance information prior to leaving the state.

Flying from State to State

If you plan to fly out of the state, federal regulations mandate that all adult passengers (ages 18+) must provide a valid state or federal photo ID that includes the passenger's name, gender, date of birth, and expiration date, prior to passing through airport security. If you do not provide a valid form of identification, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reserves the power to keep you from entering the terminal and boarding your flight. Leaving the United States

Whether you are traveling by car or by plane, if you plan on leaving the country, you must have a valid U.S. or foreign government-issued passport. If you are living in a state that borders either Canada or Mexico, you may also consider obtaining and using a border crossing card that serves as both a passport to a bordering country and your drivers license.
