Diet Plan for Children
The word diet is often mistaken for a weight-loss program, but diet also refers to nutrition. Diet plans for children need to address their growing bodies, personal tastes, activity levels and age as well as the need to attain and maintain a healthy weight.

Nutritional Requirements
-
Children need a variety of foods to make sure they are getting what they need for healthy growth and development. Every child requires protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. According to Kaiser Permanente, if your child eats a variety of healthful foods on a regular basis, he will get the nutrients he needs.
Food Selection
-
According to Kaiser Permanente, there is a division of responsibility in food selection. The parent's job is to provide a healthy variety of foods in appropriate amounts at every meal --- sticking only to healthful choices. The child's job is to decide how much, if any of those foods, he will eat. Never force your child to eat any food or demand a clean plate. Children will for the most part regulate what they eat and how much.

Helpful Tips
-
According to First Five California, smart food choices are the best way to help your children learn how to eat a healthful diet. Teach your children to avoid junk food and fried foods, and keep fruits and vegetables on hand. Encourage your children to eat because they are hungry, not out of boredom. Regular physical exercise is also a must.
