Can I Get a CDL in Ohio With a DUI on My Record?
Although having a DUI on your driving record will not necessarily preclude you from obtaining a commercial driver's license in Ohio, it will certainly make it more difficult for you to obtain one.
-
First DUI Conviction
-
If you have been convicted of a DUI, you are disqualified from obtaining a CDL for one year in Ohio. After the year has passed, you may apply for a CDL provided that you do not have any other serious traffic violations or DUIs on your driving record.
Second DUI Conviction
-
If you are convicted of a second DUI, you are permanently disqualified from obtaining a CDL in Ohio.
-
Hearing
-
If you are disqualified temporarily or permanently from getting a CDL due to one or several DUIs on your driving record, you may request a hearing where your disqualification will be reviewed. Under Ohio law, you will receive a notice when you are disqualified and you must request a hearing within 30 days from the day that the notice was mailed to you if you seek to contest your disqualification.
