Old Testament Theology

Tithing, like the many other laws subscribed to by the Israelites in the Jewish scriptures, was a requirement demonstrating obedience to God and care for needs of the community.
New Testament Theology

While tithing was a necessity in the New Testament church to keep the ministries of itinerant preachers alive, it was also a spiritual discipline to show obedience to God.

Evangelical Prosperity Theology

A popular but controversial theology, used to promote tithing, says that those who tithe will be financially rewarded by having their needs met in unexpected ways, while those who neglect tithing will not be blessed.
