Pepperidge Farm is a manufacturer of popular baked goods and snack foods. The company started as a Great Depression-era sole proprietorship on a country farm and developed into an international company over time.
Pepperidge Farm began as a small bakery operation in the kitchen of a Connecticut housewife named Margaret Rudkin in 1937. The business was named after Rudkin's family farm. Rudkin sold her baked goods to local grocery stores.
In 1961, the Campbell Soup Company acquired Pepperidge Farm from Rudkin, who stayed on with the new company until her retirement in 1966. The company continued to grown through the ensuing decades by adding product lines.
As of 2010, Pepperidge Farm is still a division of the Campbell Soup Company. Pepperidge Farm has 5,000 employees, 3,500 independent distributors and operating plants in nine locations in the United States. Its product lines include cookies, crackers and frozen foods.
